A Message From The Director
As summer programming comes to an end; the Community and Recreation Services staff has turned its attention to Fall 2009 programming and we are very excited to announce a line-up with programs, activities and special events for the whole family. Starting in August, registration will begin for tee-ball, volleyball, tot time and over 150 special interest classes.
Here is a preview of what’s to come…
TEEN’S FRIDAY NIGHT 5TH QUARTER
September 4 - November 20
Following every Willow Canyon and Valley Vista home varsity football game, Sierra Montana Recreation Center will open up from the buzzer until 11:30 pm for Surprise teens, ages 13-18. Food, video games, dancing, movies and more will keep the adrenaline going long after the final snap.
MOVIE NIGHT @ THE SURPRISE RECREATION CAMPUS
September 19
Bring your blankets and pillows, stretch out on the stadium grass and enjoy Madagascar - Escape 2 Africa, rated PG for the fall FREE Family Movie at the Surprise Recreation Campus - Surprise Stadium. Gates will open at 6:30 pm, the movie will begin at 7:00 pm.
CANCER TREATMENT CENTERS OF AMERICA TENNIS CHAMPIONSHIPS
October 8 - 11
Professional Tennis is back in Arizona as Tennis Legends take center court at the Surprise Recreation Campus – Tennis and Racquet Complex for the 2nd Annual Cancer Treatment Centers of America Tennis Championships, presented by Sanderson Volvo, October 8 - 11.
Andre Agassi, 61 career titles (8 Grand Slams) and the only player to achieve the “Golden Slam”; Mats Wilander, 40 career titles (8 Grand Slams) and the youngest man in history to win four grand slams by the age of 20; Jim Courier, 29 career titles (4 Grand Slams); Wayne Ferreira, 26 career titles and holds the male record for most consecutive Grand Slam appearances; Mark Philippoussis, Wimbledon and US Open finalist; Jimmy Arias, at age 15 the youngest player to achieve a world ranking, Aaron Krickstein, 9 career titles and the youngest player to reach the world Top 10 at age 17; and Mikael Pernfors, French Open Finalist, will compete for $150,000 in the eight player single-knock-out event which is an official tour stop on the Outback Champions Series.

FAMILY CAMPOUT
October 17 - 18
Learn camping basics in the White Tank Mountains. Bring your tent and sleeping bags and enjoy camping in the desert with other Surprise families, dinner on Saturday and breakfast and a hike Sunday morning.
SHAKESPEARE IN THE PARK
October 25
Enjoy a Sunday afternoon in the Park! The FREE family thespian event will feature “Much Ado About Nothing” a romantic comedy by William Shakespeare performed by the Arizona Shakespeare Festival. Enjoy roaming entertainment including jugglers and stilt walkers and bring your appetite for medieval tastes such as giant turkey drumsticks and steak / chicken on a stake. The performance begins at
2:00 pm in the Surprise Community Park.
ARIZONA FALL LEAGUE
October / November
The Arizona Fall League will return to the City of Surprise for its fifth season at the Surprise Recreation Campus featuring our home team the Surprise Rafters. Arizona Fall League runs from
October 13 - November 21 with the Rafters first home game at Surprise Stadium on October 14. Saturday, November 7 is the 4th Annual Arizona Fall League Rising Stars Showcase All Star Game.
SURPRISE PARTY
December 4 - 5
The Surprise Recreation Campus will celebrate its 8th Anniversary with the Annual Surprise Party on December 4th and 5th. Families come celebrate the tradition and enjoy the festivities including Friday Night’s Balloon Glow accompanied by live music, the Arizona Skyhawks Skydivers, a tree lighting ceremony and fireworks. Saturday will be packed with live entertainment, live animals shows, elephant rides, interactive games, arts and crafts, a car show, food and much more!
