Efficiencies coming to Surprise transportation structure
SURPRISE, AZ (November 9, 2009) Surprise City Manager Randy Oliver has announced an organizational alignment that will merge the Transportation and the Public Works Departments.
"We are always looking at ways to make our city more responsive to the needs of our residents,” Oliver says. “Streamlining all road-related operations into one department means we will be more effective in delivering services, and residents will realize a benefit.”
Transportation Director Dr. Robert Maki announced his plans to retire from the city, effective November 30, 2009, which triggered the realignment, Oliver says.
"Dr. Maki had a long and distinguished career in Michigan even before coming to Surprise,” Oliver says. “We were very fortunate to have his expertise available to us during very critical growth years. I will miss him and everyone in Surprise wishes him well.”
