City's fast-track review process attracts veterans' medical clinic

Surprise AZ (October 13, 2009) The City of Surprise has learned that the United States Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) will open a medical clinic in the city next year.

The VA medical clinic will be located within the Ancona Professional Plaza, at Grand Avenue and Mountain View Road.   The VA will occupy 26,000 square feet of space on the first floor that will house ambulatory care, lab space and room for office and administrative efforts.

"Several months ago, Ancona representatives contacted our office seeking help in attracting the VA to their commercial center here in Surprise," says Economic Development Director John Hagen. "We listed many positives for why Surprise was a good fit for the VA and made it very clear that our business-friendly permit review process allows them to open up when they are ready- that they will not have to wait on the city."

"One of the top reasons our Mayor, Council and City Manager wanted a streamlined permit process was to attract new businesses and services to Surprise," says Community Development Director Jeff Mihelich. "I'm glad to know we were able to be of service to attract a group that does such great work for our veterans."

The VA clinic is scheduled to open in summer 2010, next to The Pain Center, Cigna, and Arizona Heart Institute.
